The Geary Community Healthcare Foundation was founded in 1987 by Geary Community Hospital and hospital trustees. With a mission to obtain private gift support for health care and enhance medical services in Geary County and surrounding communities, the Foundation is able to provide channels by which donors may share their philanthropic objectives, such as, annual gift programs, special projects, endowments, and planned gifts.
Activities of the Foundation include investing and disbursing the funds in its care, and supporting the health care mission of Geary Community Hospital and other non-profit health care agencies in the area served by the hospital.
The Geary Community Healthcare Foundation non-profit organization, separate and not involved in the administration of any other health care agency in Geary County. The Foundation's policies and operations are guided by the greater good of the community and its paramount concern for superb health care.
Since its beginning, the Geary Community Healthcare Foundation has raised or committed over four million dollars through donations, memorials and special events. Many of these donations have gone to help establish departments, some of which are the Martha K. Hoover Women’s Health Center, Fred C. Bramlage Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, Rago Cardiopulmonary Unit, Rago Radiology, Rathbun Dialysis Room, Miller Chemotherapy Unit, and the proposed Fegan Intensive Care Unit. Other donations have supported equipment needs and other worthy health care projects. The Geary Community Healthcare Foundation has recently purchased 46 Public Access Defibrillators for the schools in Geary County and community sites. Another sponsorship of the Foundation is the Geary Community Hospital Healthcare Scholarship Fund, which is supported by the dress down funds from employees at Geary Community Hospital. The employees consistently return approximately $6,000.00 annually to the Scholarship Fund.
Geary Community Hospital employees are also able to donate funds through their paycheck as well by payroll deduction. The Healthcare Foundation has an Employee Advisory Board that meets to decide disbursement of these funds. In the past, these monies have provided for redecoration and improvements of patient rooms throughout the hospital, a 2-way radio for the ER, medical equipment for Rago Cardiopulmonary, Outpatient Surgery Unit, the Laboratory, the Geary Community Hospital Education Department, a pediatric crash cart for the ER, the Sure Sight Auto refractor for Junction City Pediatrics, a blanket warmer for Rago Cardiopulmonary Stress Tests, Automatic External Defibrillators for Home Health and Hospice as well as Geary Rehabilitation Fitness Center. The employees' support at Geary Community Hospital has had a major impact in the services the Foundation is able to offer to the community.
