Home Health Aide - Full Time, Temporary

POSITION SUMMARY: The Home Health Aide is certified as a Nurse Aide and Home Health Aide by standards of the State of Kansas. The Home Health Aide works under the direction of the professional nurse and provides supportive services that assist the client and /or family in the achievement of emotional and physical comfort in the home setting.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education:
- Graduate of a high school or equivalency
- Additional education preparation as a graduate of a certified nurse aid course
Minimum Experience:
- One year of experience is preferred with some in the home.
- If no prior experience, must possess the desire and ability to learn
Minimum Field of Expertise:
- Ability to follow instructions
- Knowledge of new trends and techniques in nursing
- Demonstrates annual competency in selected clinical skills
- Ability to prioritize/organize work with accuracy while remaining flexible
Required certification:
- Certified Nurse Aide with Home Health Aide class with forthcoming test and certificate within four (4) months of employment
- BLS affirmation
Required courses/training:
- 12 In-service hours per year
Personal:
- Works effectively with others, possessing tact, discretion and diplomacy.
- Acts only within the scope of his/her practice.
- The ability to take written and oral instruction
- Communication is clear and precise.
- Possesses the ability to work quietly.
- Follows hospital/Home Health dress code.
- Reliable.
- Possesses integrity.

- Maintains a positive attitude
- Must be able to assess date reflective of a client’s status and report the appropriate information relative to the client’s age-specific needs.
Working conditions:
- Subject to stressful conditions.
- Must be able to get in and out of the car several times a day
- Walk to the client’s location, which may require the climbing of steps.
- The performance of client care requires the Home Health Aide to stand, sit, stoop, bend, turn and twist.
- Must be able to work in hot, cold and humid conditions.
- Requires weekend and holiday work. Subject to overtime and low census days due to fluctuation in work load.
- Employee complies with management of information policies and procedures.
- Must have the ability to successfully complete requirements for driving a motor vehicle and provide own vehicle; will receive travel reimbursement. Must have a valid Kansas Driver’s license and have proof of liability insurance on file.
- The time spent in the office is in a clean well-lighted and well-ventilated area.
Degree of Supervision Required:
- Work under the supervision of an RN/LPN.
The Certified Nursing Aide/Home Health Aide is evaluated by several methods including observation, documented employee counseling, and continuing education/in-services/meeting records. “Exceeds” must include documentation by the Certified Nursing Aide that they went beyond the expectations routine performance. “Not met” must include documentation that staff member has not performed up to the expectations by the nurse supervisor.
