Occupational Therapy

Pediatric Occupational Therapy addresses the skills necessary for a child to become a functional and independent adult. These skills include such things as:

  • fine and gross motor skills
  • age appropriate self-care skills
  • regulation of arousal level
  • sensory discrimination and processing
  • communication skills
  • cognitive skills
  • appropriate social interactions
  • self-concept

Pediatric OTs most often address these skills through play which is a natural medium used by all children and is highly motivating. Education and involvement of the family is a primary consideration in Pediatric Occupational Therapy and may be critical to success.

Speech-Language Therapy

Pediatric Speech Therapy addresses the skills necessary for effective communication and swallowing. Our goal is to maximize children’s success by developing good communication skills. Speech therapy focuses on communication and feeding abilities instead of focusing on disabilities. Family involvement is a crucial key to the child’s communication success. Speech therapy is most often addressed through play giving the child a more comfortable environment to succeed.

Feeding Clinic & Sensory Gym

Pediatric Therapy Services at Geary Community Hospital offers a feeding clinic which provides a team approach toward improving feeding behaviors and safe eating in infants and children. We have an OT and SLP who are certified in The S.O.S. (Sequential Oral Sensory) Approach to Feeding. We are also equipped with a sensory area for children who have Sensory Processing and Sensory Integration Disorders and difficulties.

Signed doctor order for evaluation and treatment are required for requested therapy. Orders may be faxed, mailed, or delivered to our office. Our office staff will assist families in scheduling and verifying insurance benefits for therapy services.
